Our Vision

Starvation Elimination + EDucation= SEED

SEEDS of Joy was birthed out of the work of a Kenyan pastor who was gathering individuals under a tree in their village for Biblical teaching and education. His work became so successful that he developed a large contingency of orphan children and began to meet their basic needs and provide a daily education for them (which they were not getting elsewhere). Since he didn’t have the infrastructure to handle the volume of children he was attracting or the resources needed to adequately meet their needs, he turned to a friend in the United States for support. This relationship led to the birth of SEEDS.

The idea behind SEEDS of Joy is simple: Starvation can be eliminated through education, and the infrastructure that comes along with having a school in a struggling community.

Education (or, rather, the presence of a school) is a factor in eliminating starvation because it provides meals, general health care, and even potable water for the entire community. These factors alone drastically reduce starvation and improve the quality of life of individuals in a community.

In addition to providing the basic essentials (food, water, shelter), SEEDS of Joy equips it’s students to be leaders in their community and to transform their villages as they grow, thus ensuring that the trajectory of starvation and poverty can diminish, and communities and individuals may flourish.
